2015

137 years of the Velodrome

2015 logo

2015 was the 137th year of the Velodrome and the challenge this year was to cycle 137 laps, the equivalent of 43 miles.

2014

UK Mainland

2014 logo
The challenge for 2014 is to collectively total some 30,000 laps of the track or 18,000km, the equivalent length of the coastline of mainland UK.

2013

The Giro, Tour and Vuelta

2013 logo

On Saturday October 26th 2013 the challenge is to cycle in laps the distance of the three classic rides: Giro d'Italia (3,191 km), the Tour de France (3,405 km) and the Vuelta Espana (3,191 km). This will be our biggest distance challenge yet: 9,500 km or 15,000 laps of the track. We will need all the riders we can get to try and achieve this.

2012

Brighton to Brazil

RioThe Olympic torch is passed from London in 2012 to Rio de Janeiro in 2016, so in celebration of this on Saturday October 27th 2012, a group of dedicated fundraisers jointly pedalled 9,000 km, some 13,000 laps of the Preston Park track or the equivalent distance of Brighton to Brazil! 2012 was also the 125th anniversary of the opening of the velodrome at Preston Park, the oldest cycle track in the UK. It was a cold day so a great achievement to all the riders and supporters who took part. 2012 was the first year The Martlets Hospice was involved and the Maracuto Cruzeiro du Sol samba band came and played Brazilian rhythms to keep those legs pedalling.

2011

The Tour de France

TourThe Rockinghorse children's charity was a beneficiary charity this year and it was lovely to welcome them as well as staff and children from Tudor House, one of their respite homes. In the end we completed the Tour distance not once but twice!!

2010

Lands End to John O'Groats

Kim JenkinsOur first Pedal event and we didn't know quite what to expect. Both organisers and cycle club were taken aback with the response as we welcomed some 250 riders to the track during the course of the day. Elke Sigg ran her, now legendary, cake stall and when the final total for the event was counted a staggering £18,000 had been raised for the MNDA. It was this that gave us the encouragement to continue with Pedal as a yearly event.

Pedal is born!
