FAQ

  • How many laps do I need to do?

    +

You can choose to do as many as you want. Each lap is 600 metres and you can set yourself a lap challenge of 20, 50, or 100 laps or just see how it goes.
Many riders will ride for a period of time, take a break and then go on again. You will need to count your own laps.

  • Do I need to wear a helmet?

    +

Yes. This is really important. No helmet and you will not be able to go on to the track. It is part of the event insurance.

  • What if I get a puncture?

    +

There will be bike mechanics on hand to check your bike over and help with basic maintenance including punctures. Some riders like the mechanics to check their bike before they go on to the track.

  • Is there a minimum age?

    +

We advise 6 years old but we do advise parents that young children must have a basic cycling ability and be comfortable riding unassisted.

  • Who organises the riders?

    +

Outside the track Pedal marshalls are at hand to check you through registration and get you to the track. All riders are given clear instruction on the procedure for getting on and off the track. Once on the track PPYCC coaches will marshall and monitor the riders as they go around the track. PPYCC coaches are trained and qualified by British Cycling.

  • Are there first aiders on hand?

    +

There are dedicated first aiders on hand plus several of the coaches are first aid qualified.

  • Do I need to pre register?

    +

It is really helpful if you pre register. It helps the organisers to get a sense of the volume of riders to expect.

  • Can I just turn up on the day?

    +

You can, there is a charge of £12 per rider to go on the track.

  • Do I need to fundraise?

    +

We encourage all riders taking part to do some sort of fundraising, whether online with their own Virgin Money Giving page or using the sponsorship form downloadable from the Pedal website.
